Starcrash (1978)

Starcrash (original Italian title Scontri stellari oltre la terza dimensione, literally "stellar clashes beyond the third dimension") is an italian science fiction film, which was also released under the English title of The Adventures of Stella Star (in the US). The screenplay was written by Luigi Cozzi (pen name Lewis Coates) and Nat Wachsberger, and Cozzi also directed the film. The cast included Marjoe Gortner, Caroline Munro, Judd Hamilton, Christopher Plummer, David Hasselhoff, Joe Spinell and Robert Tessier. It was filmed in Technicolor with Dolby sound, and has a runtime of 94 minutes. The US release is 92 minutes, and received an MPAA rating of PG. The film is generally regarded by critics as a campy Z movie with cheap special effects and a weak, derivative plot that some people find unintentionally humorous. It appeared a year after the original Star Wars and tried to re-mix the same elements, but without much success. It has been compared to Plan 9 from Outer Space.

The Sore Losers (1997)

Blackie, an alien from the Lo-Fi Frequency Dimension, returns to Earth. In 1954, he was sent to Earth and allowed to kill twelve people but was imprisoned after exceeding the number. If he can kill three more now, he can earn the right to go home. Driving to Memphis, he picks up his old friend, the psychotic comic-book fan Mike Maker, as well as Kerine, just released from jail and having discovered the pleasure of killing hippies. Kerine kills her parents but Blackie learns that her murders will count as his own unless he kills someone of The Elder’s choosing. The Elder chooses Mike’s girlfriend, the country-fair motorcycle-lifting amazon Goliatha, D’lana Tunnell. As Mike plans to kill her, D’lana is sentenced to the electric chair for murder. Further problems are caused by the pursuing Asian Men in Black, an angel, and an out-of-control Kerine who is threatening to bump the number of victims up further.

Memphis-based filmmaker John Michael McCarthy makes cod-1950s exploitation films. His earlier works included the likes of Damselvis, Daughter of Helvis (1994) and Teenage Tupelo (1995). They are films filled with McCarthy’s love of rock‘n’roll and garage bands, horror comics, juvenile delinquent cinema and bimbos of ambiguous gender. McCarthy’s films are also totally gonzo experiences. A clear hero of McCarthy’s is Russ Meyer and his world of trashy softcore exploitation delivered in a mockingly campy tongue-in-cheek tone.

The Sore Losers is a film that boggles the mind in trying to come up with an adequate description. One supposes they could aliken it to a remake of Natural Born Killers (1994) as by Russ Meyer. The plot is almost indescribable and never something that happens in a particularly linear or coherent line. Not that that particularly matters. This is a film that has a little of everything, almost as though McCarthy is trying to see how many Psychotronic audience niches he can appeal to at the same time – UFOs, juvenile delinquent spree killers, topless women, rock‘n’roll, comic books, zombies, motorcycles, rednecks, Asian Men in Black, hippie killings, ambiguous angels, Women in Prison, lesbian sex, catfights that take place in an electric chair, strippers, and some hilariously surreal deadpan dialogue. What more could any good lover of exploitation cinema ask for? This is a film that feels like one is channel-surfing among a dozen exploitation theatres all at once – while stoned.

McCarthy recruits most of his cast from various garage bands – the Men in Black are played by a Japanese punk band Guitar Wolf, for instance. The alien Elder is played by no less than famed 1960s exploitation producer David F. Friedman. In the central role, Jack Oblivian, who looks like a crosshatch of Beck and a rawer, rougher Elvis, has a wonderfully brash anti-authoritarianism. Although the one who steals the show is Kerine Elkins. With her pudgy build, scarlet red dyed hair, trash makeup, black vinyl bodysuit and mean-attitude, a seeming combination of Divine and Shirley Stohler from The Honeymoon Killers (1970), she has a truly scary presence in the film. One is certain – put her up against Juliette Lewis who essayed the equivalent role in Natural Born Killers, and you could bet that she would tear Juliette’s throat out hands down.   J. Michael McCarthy later went onto make the equally gonzo post-holocaust film Superstarlet A.D. (2000) and Cigarette Girl (2009) about a smoking female serial killer in a future where smoking is ostracised.

Virtual Combat (1995)

This lively low-budget action movie is packed with martial arts, sexy sirens, and a sci-fi plot involving computers and virtual reality images that become real. The tale centers on two Nevada border officers, Dave Quarry (Don "The Dragon" Wilson) and John (Ken McLeod), who amuse themselves off duty by honing their kickboxing skills via virtual reality combat. Elsewhere, a computer tycoon prepares to market his company's latest invention, a combination of DNA and virtual reality that creates beings and creatures who look and feel real. The first two "cyberplasmic" creations are beautiful and sexually eager women, Lana and Greta. Meanwhile back in the lab of cyberplasmic creator Dr.Lawrence Cameron, Dante, the hero of a newly engineered game, manages to free himself and enter the outside world. A vicious fighter, he also wants to free his many horrific enemies and pals. Quarry gets involved after the fugitive Dante kills his friend John and several other cops.

Pan's People in Concert (1974)

Various dance routines and musical numbers performed by Britain's most popular dancing troupe and choreographed by former member Flick Colby.

Between 1970 and 1976 this BBC2 programme showcased top class musical acts in what was the ‘MTV Unplugged’ of its day. Elton John, Cliff Richard, David Essex and The Kinks all appeared at one time or another. On 17 April 1974, viewers were treated to 35 minutes of non-stop Pan’s People, including an infamous set with Louise and Dee Dee dancing on cushions wearing very little indeed. This routine is shown today on virtually all Pan’s People retrospectives. In a 1994 documentary Louise said that these skimpy little outfits were actually one of the most expensive costumes ever made for the group.

Mr. Horatio Knibbles (1971)

Taking it’s cue from the James Stewart-starring masterpiece Harvey, here we have the cult 1971 Childrens Film Foundation film Mr. Horatio Knibbles which tells the tale of a large creepy looking rabbit (dressed in fine gentlemen attire!) who can only be seen by a young girl. Starring Lesley Roach, Gary Smith, Anthony Shepherd and the late, great David Lodge (an always welcome face in any British comedy production), amongst others. The screenplay was co-written by Peter Blackmore who was also involved in writing all three Morecambe & Wise movies. Look out for an appearance by Roy Barraclough – best known for his work with Les Dawson and as Coronation Street‘s Alec Gilroy.
The plot: Charming tale about a large white rabbit who can only be seen by a young girl. The young girl tries to convince her friends and family he really exists but until they are believers he won’t reveal himself to them.
I’m going to give a shout out here to “KempyClassic” who originally posted this on Demonoid and very kindly seeded this rarity when I requested it. Cheers! :)

God's prototype

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Abducted by the Daleks (2005)

..at least there's a Pink Floyd music *)

Final proof that there's a fetish for everyone: the Daleks, the genocidal cyborgs from Doctor Who, starred in their own porn video a few years ago — and it turns out those egg-whisk guns of theirs have a setting we never knew about. Abducted By Daleks had barely gone on sale before the BBC sued and banned it out of existence. Copies are now incredibly rare — but well worth hunting down, if only for the amusement value. More NSFW evidence of surprising Dalek sexiness, after the jump.

After watching the movie, all the way through, it's never entirely clear to me exactly why the Daleks want to capture healthy human women in stripper heels in the first place. They make a huge show of "interrogating" the women, but never actually ask any questions. It's also not clear if they want to mate with these women — which would be quite out of character for the Daleks, who are obsessed with racial purity on Doctor Who. Even when they finally accept human DNA, only one cell in a billion is worthy of cultivation.

Abducted starts with three women picking up a fourth (who's really a Dalek agent) and then as they're driving down the street, they run over a super-fake looking alien and their car is wrecked. Even though there's a woman-skinning serial killer at large, the four women wander off into the forest, split up and then decide to remove their clothes randomly. And that's when the Daleks grab them with their teleportation device. I love the fact that the women don't notice they've been teleported to an alien spaceship and are surrounded by Daleks, until one Dalek makes a throat-clearing noise.

The interrogation doesn't go very well, so first the Daleks bring in their sexy human agent, who dresses up like a dominatrix and threatens the women with a big bullwhip. And then the Daleks set their ray guns on vibrate and train them on the women...

Mean Streets (1973) - Soundtrack

Originally titled Season of The Witch, Mean Streets is both an accomplishment in film in its own right, as well as a blueprint for the themes and motifs Martin Scorsese would later expand on and finesse for the next three decades. It’s all here: Cosa Nostra, religious devotion an doubt, moral contradiction, loyalty, family, and of course, violence. What also began with Mean Streets was the filmmakers relationship with, and use of, music to underscore his film’s action.

With Mean Streets not only did Scorsese change the face of cinema, but he also helped change the notion of what role music plays in film. Abstaining from a traditional score, the film makes use of contemporary pop music throughout the course of the narrative to accentuate each scene. Whether its the Stones “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” playing as DeNiro’s Johnny Boy walks, in slow motion, into the bar, The Ronettes “Be My Baby” set against the film’s intro 8mm backdrop, or The Chips “Rubber Biscuit.” frenetically playing as Harvey Keitel’s character Charlie loses himself to the moment, the music is setting up mood and character, both in a micro and macro sense.

Arabian Nights (1974)

Arabian Nights is a italian film directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini. Its original Italian title is Il fiore delle mille e una notte, which means "The Flower of the One Thousand and One Nights".

The film is an adaptation of the ancient Arabic anthology The Book of One Thousand and One Nights, better known as The Arabian Nights. It is the last of Pasolini's "Trilogy of Life", which began with The Decameron and continued with The Canterbury Tales. The lead was played by young Sicilian Franco Merli who was discovered for this film by Pasolini.

The main story concerns an innocent young man, Nur-e-Din (Franco Merli), who comes to fall in love with a slave girl, Zumurrud (Ines Pellegrini), who selected him as her master. After a foolish error of his causes her to be abducted, he travels in search of her. Meanwhile Zumurrud manages to escape and, disguised as a man, comes to a far-away kingdom where she becomes king. Various other travellers who recount their own tragic and romantic experiences include stories of a young man who becomes enraptured by a mysterious woman on his wedding day, and a man who is determined to free a woman from a demon (Franco Citti). Interwoven are Nur-e-Din's continuous search for Zumurrud and his - mostly erotic - adventures. In the end he arrives at the far-away kingdom and is finally reunited with Zumurrud. The tales contain abundant nudity, sex, and slapstick humour. More...

Les Fruits De La Passion (1981)

Fruits of Passion (French: Les fruits de la passion) is a French-Japanese drama film directed by Shūji Terayama. Klaus Kinski stars in this stylishly bizarre erotic drama as Sir Stephen, a decadent man of wealth living in Hong... Kong in 1920. Sir Stephen persuades his wife O (Isabelle Illiers) to go to work in a brothel as a way to prove her love for him. As she is confronted by any number of perverse sexual possibilities, Sir Stephen carries on an affair with Natalie (Arielle Dombasle) and supports the political revolution simmering in the Pearl of the Orient. Les Fruits de la Passion was based on a novel by Pauline Reage (aka Dominique Aury), who also wrote the erotic classic Histoire d'O; the film was released in some territories under the title The Story of "O" Continued.

The story takes place in Shanghai. A girl loves a rich and much older man (played by Kinski). She is willing to do everything he wants to show her love, but he is playing a sick game with her. As part of this game he sends her to a Chinese brothel. A poor young boy sees her and falls in love with her. To get the money needed to sleep with her, he joins "the revolution". Additionally the movie shows the fate of some of the other prostitutes.

This film has less S and M and bondage than the original "Story of O", but the sex scenes are much more graphic. There is one obviously unsimulated oral sex scene and another "missionary" scene with Kinski and Illiers that looks pretty unsimulated as well. If you consider this a hardcore porn film, it is a veritable masterpiece. The cinematography is excellent and the musical score is good. There are a lot of poetic images--for instance, a long shot of a dead bird floating in the bay outside the convent, and later a surreal Jean Rollinesque image of a drowned woman floating on a grand piano (?!) in this same bay. Most hardcore porn films wouldn't bother with such arty digressions. As an art film though, which this is also obviously trying to be, it is less successful, mostly because all the characters are pretty thinly drawn.

Nunsploitation: Convent of Sinners (1986)

Susanna (Eva Grimaldi) is raped by her father and because of her sins she is sent to be a nun at the convent. The monsignor takes a special interest in Susanna’s case and he asks the mother superior to pay special attention to her because of her recent trauma. Mother Superior starts to take her duties to seriously as she soon becomes infatuated with Susanna which only helps infuriate her old lover sister Theresa. When the mother superior becomes ill sister Theresa in next in line and she quickly uses her new found powers to torture Susanna. All the other nuns fear Theresa who convinces all of them to help her get rid of Susanna by making her look possessed by the devil. The monsignor is called in to investigate the strange things going on at the convent. Will he believe that story of Susanna being possessed by the devil or will he uncover an even more sinister truth?

The Convent of Sinners was directed by Joe D’Amato under the psydoname Dario Donati. He also worked as the films cinema photographer. The film is filled with bold colors that are perfectly offset by his low key direction which follows the action instead filling very frame with grand set pieces. There are a few amazing moments like when one nun whips herself while she masturbates and the exorcism sequence. The nudity and sex scenes are pretty mild for nunsploitation and they almost bare secondary in this film in which the plot is the main driving force.

SLOW DEATH serves as the missing link between the Groovies blues-influenced Kama Sutra years and the British Invasion Sire years. The Groovies were inbetween labels, Roy Loney had just left the band (replaced by Chris Wilson), Danny Mihm was about to take a brief vacation from the music biz, and Cyril Jordan began setting the Groovies in a new direction musically.
This really may be the best the Groovies ever sounded: very tight Stones-on-amphetamines rock and roll. Jordan and James Ferrell simply rock out on guitar and Mihm and George Alexander show why they're the best rhythm combination the Groovies ever had.
The first four tracks ("Sweet Little Rock & Roller," "Slow Death," "Let It Rock" and "Dog Meat") don't stop for any limiting adjectives. Adding the demo version of "Shake Some Action" is icing on the cake.
Yeah, the sound quality ain't the best, but be thankful these rehearsal tapes even exist. This was a powerful band which never quite reached this level of excitement again.
